Why Is My Hair So Dry?

Why Is My Hair So Dry?

We all know that feeling. You wake up in the morning and run your fingers through your hair- only to find it feels like a Brillo pad. Your scalp is itchy, and you can't seem to get rid of the straw-like texture no matter how much product you use. So what's causing your dry hair? And more importantly, how can you fix it? Read on for our top tips!

Causes of Dry Hairs

Here are the 4 main causes of dry hairs:

Styling Tools Usage: One of the main causes of dry hair is using a lot of heat to style your hair. Whether using a curling iron, flat iron, or blow dryer, the high temperatures strip away moisture from your strands, leaving them dry and prone to breakage. If you must use heat styling tools, use a heat protectant spray beforehand and keep the temperature low.

Washing Hairs Frequently: Avoid washing your hair too often, which can also lead to dryness. When you do wash your hair, use a gentle shampoo and conditioner formulated for dry hair.

Humidity: High humidity levels can also lead to dry hair, as the air can draw moisture out of the hair shaft.

Other Reasons: Other less common causes of dry hair include an unhealthy diet, hormonal imbalances, and certain medical conditions.

How to Know that Your Hairs Are Dry?

If your hair feels rough to the touch or you can see visible flakes of the dried scalp on your strands, it's time for a hydration treatment. Other signs include split ends, frizziness, and lack of elasticity.

Start with a simple moisturizing shampoo and conditioner if you're unsure how to bring your locks back to life.

You can also try using a deep conditioning mask or oil treatment once or twice a week. With regular care and attention, you can say goodbye to dry hair for good!

How to Treat Dry Hairs?

Use a Conditioner: Conditioner is a must if you have dry hair. It helps to add moisture and hydration to your strands. When choosing a conditioner, look for one that is rich and creamy. Apply conditioner to your wet hair after shampooing and leave it on for 3-5 minutes before rinsing it out.

Use a Deep Conditioning Treatment: Deep conditioning treatments are like a supercharged version of a regular conditioner. They help to repair damage and add extra moisture to your hair. For best results, use a deep conditioning treatment once or twice weekly. Apply it to wet hair after shampooing and leave it on for 15-20 minutes before rinsing it out.

Use An Oil Treatment: Oils are great for dry hair because they help seal moisture. One of our favorite oils for dry hair is coconut oil. To use an oil treatment, apply a small amount of oil to your wet or dry hair and massage it into your scalp and strands. Leave the oil for 30 minutes or overnight before washing it with shampoo and conditioner.

Use a Leave-In Conditioner: A leave-in conditioner is another great option for treating dry hair. It can be used in conjunction with other products or on its own. To use a leave-in conditioner, apply it to wet hair from root to tip. Depending on your preference, you can either rinse it out or leave it.

Limit Heat Styling: Heat styling can further dry out your already dry hair. If you must heat style, use a heat-protecting product beforehand. It will help to shield your strands from the damaging effects of the heat. Also, try not to limit heat styling to once or twice a week. It will give your hair time to recover between styles.

Preventing Dry Hairs in Future

Fortunately, there are a few simple steps that can be taken to help prevent dry hair in the future:

Step 1: First, wash your hair less often, using a gentle shampoo and conditioner.

Step 2: When styling your hair, use low heat settings and avoid over-processing.

Step 3: Finally, consider using a deep conditioner or mask at least once a week to help keep your hair hydrated and healthy.

So, which is better to choose between wigs and hair weaves? Weaves are the way to go if you're looking for a low-maintenance style and easy to care for. However, if you want a more versatile style and the option to change your look, then wigs are the better choice. Whichever route you decide to take, make sure to take good care of your hair to prevent dryness and damage.
